Questions & Answers
Here you find a collection of the most posed questions. We hope you find this section useful for preparing your visit!
How probable is it that we see bears on a bear excursion?
The Scandinavian brown bear is very shy. As the bears have a very good smelling sense, that indicates our approaching from ~250m distance and the viewing distance in the environmental forests is oftenly below 30m it is almost impossible to see a bear. To show or see a bear is not our aim with the excursion. We will show you fresh tracks and bring the bears life closer to you. You will learn to identify a bear spot and what tracks to look after. Our aim is to transfer the knowledge that we accumulate in the research to the visitor. Anyhow, it has happened that we saw bears on our tours. We operate in the most bear dense area of Sweden.
Why don't you offer bear watching?
This has different reasons. The most important reason is that we do behaviour studies with the bear. Our marked bears shall behave natural so we can study their every day life and habits. If we would feed the bears in front of a foto hiding place or track bears for showing them to visitors we will change the natural behaviour of the bear and our studies will loose subject. Radio tracking of bears is forbidden in other purpose than research and needs to be permitted of the Swedish Nature Preservation Agency.
Do I really need to bring rubber boots for a bear excursion?
This depends on the weather and on the den we want to visit. As we change our excursions frequently it is better to be prepared for wet lands than to get wet feet in tennis shoes. If you do not want to buy rubber boots for a bear excursion, you can hire rubber boots from us for a small fee.
Please tell us at least two weeks in advance your shoe size so we can make sure to have rubber boots for you at your arrival.
Is it allowed to hunt bears?
There is a licence hunting on bears. In each bear county will be a certain amount of bears permitted to be shot each year. With a continuous bear hunting the bears will keep their shyness that is to their benefit when it comes to coexistence and acceptance by the people living in the bear areas.
Why is your homepage only in English?

To maintain actual information on the homepage in several languanges will cost plenty of time and will adventure the quality of the presented information. By having the homepage in English language we have more fresh information and archieve higher quality.
Anyhow, all of our activities can be booked in Swedish, English and German language.
Can I have my dog with me at the bear excursion?
Yes, this is normally not a problem. Anyhow, please keep in mind that this might disturb other partricipants and it might happen that some dogs get afraid at the bear spots. Please also keep in mind that you will share your focus in between dog and guide so depending on your dogs behaviour you might experience the excursion in a lower quality.
