Koppången Reserve

Koppången Reserve belongs to Swedens most precious mire areas, some mires exist since 4500 BC! The ambient contains large sloping fens combined with spruce dominated forests.

Koppången covers an area of more than 50 km2 and attracts a great number of species that are extinct in many areas across Europe.

Description

We start the program with a dinner at the camp fire at 18:00. Our guide Bengt leads us afterwards into the northern part of the Koppången Reserve. Here we will enjoy the atmosphere of primeval spruce dominated forest. Our guide will explain about the ecology of this forest and point out special lichens, plants, polypores and mosses. This area is even biotope for Capercaillie and the Three-toed Woodpecker that we have a chance to see or hear. After approx 2 hrs walk we will get back to Björn & Vildmarks cabins and spend the night there. Next morning you can get breakfast from 6:30. Of course you can fill a thermos with tea or coffee and prepare some sandwiches to bring with you for the morning excursion. We will leave at 7:00 for another walk into the Koppången Reserve, this time from the south side. Now we will have the chance to see or hear cranes, black grouse and willow grouse, see more rare lichens and get information on the ecology of this area. We end the tour at about AM 10:00.
